Before deciding to embark into the homeownership world, one should have some or most of these things in place.
No debt or at least minimum debt. If you are buying a house with a mortage, you are taking into a lot of debt that will take many decades to pay back. One needs to have their finances in place and understand that the longer it takes to pay back the mortgage or any other debt, the more interest you will have to pay. Having little to no debt when you get your mortgage, will help you focus on paying back the morgage which should be your priority. Another benefit of having no debt, is that banks will approve you for better interest rates.
